Motorsport Team looking for Designer / FEA Analyst

From /\943 - Scott Whitehead:  I know of a very good position within my NASCAR Nextel Cup team which they're looking to fill ASAP. It involves FEA and design work. Pay will depend on experience. There are two other designers, so strength in FEA is of primary importance, with design experience somewhat secondary. Preferred skills would include Catia v5, Abacus, etc.

Personal skills will be very important.  Some knowledge of motorsport is preferred, but not required.  The desire to live in an absolutely gorgeous climate right near (or directly on) one of the largest and most beautiful man-made lakes around is also a plus.

Contact me at swhiteh3@gmail.com if you're interested.

/\678pi Jeff McHarg - I work for Lincoln laboratory and there is a well-established path to get into an internship here. I can't bypass the campus recruiting or initial interview, but anyone that gets that far should contact me. If I can't offer them an assignment with my group, I can at least help them understand which groups might be best for them. I'm pretty involved in the mentoring process here and would be glad to help. As you may know, we take mostly from electrical engineering and computer science majors, but there is also mechanical engineering, biology and physics interest. If you are interested in staying in Boston for the summer, please apply with the recruiters and send me a resume.

/\707 Mike Van Riper - I can't promise any specific position, but, my company, VeriSign, is planning to hire several college interns for next summer to work in our Mountain View office as software engineering interns. If any of these guys are CS majors, please get me their resumes and I'll do my best to get one of them an internship offer for next summer at VeriSign. mvanriper@verisign.com

/\718 Ken Filar - Our firm designs buildings for Science/Research clients (both private, such as IBM, and governmental, such as the National Labs) and for Semiconductor Manufacturing (such as Intel). We are one of the leaders in Nanotechnology facility design. We have offices in downtown San Francisco, Chicago, Plano TX, Phoenix, and Fishkill NY. The type of work varies by office. We have building Architects, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Process Piping, and Structural Engineers, but not at every location. We also have industrial engineers that get involved in scientific/manufacturing equipment capacity, layout, and utility design. You can give me a call at 415-856-8218 whether you are interested in an internship or permanent position.

/\725 Chris Huson - I've moved to a Spanish bank, Santander. We're in mid-town Manhattan. We don't have a formal recruiting program in the US so personal connections are key. I may be able to arrange a summer internship, an externship during IAP, or an ad hoc project. The nature of the work would be some kind of website or technology programing. (this is not what you'd be doing long term at the bank, it's just how I can justify your added value for a summer job). Native Spanish or Portuguese fluency is a strong plus. Also, you're always welcome to come to NYC for an informational interview. Call me: 212-407-0921 office / 917-576-6770 cell

/\730 Peter Merkle writes, "Sandia Labs in Albuquerque, CA and Livermore, CA really want to hire MIT grads and have an active program to recruit. Undergrad internships are hard to get now but please me your resume at pbmerkl@sandia.gov, and summer of '06 is a real possibility."

/\739 Bill Dawson, Raytheon Company Integrated Defense Systems in Sudbury, MA hires all engineering majors for summer internships. We hire sophomores, juniors, and seniors going for master's degrees for summer jobs and the work will be challenging. We design, build, and test radar systems on a large variety of platforms including aircraft, HMMWV, ship, truck, and submarines. I am a hiring manager for mechanical engineers and can forward other resumes to the right folks. Sudbury is 25 miles from LCA and a pretty easy commute. wcdawson@raytheon.com

/\823 Brian Lasher writes, I have posted a summer job on Aetna’s job website - http://www.aetna.com/working. The position title is “Investments College Intern” with a location of West Hartford, CT. (requisition number 5629 in the Aetna system) This position will be part of an entrepreneurial investment team responsible for managing a portfolio of Hedge Fund investments for proprietary and externally raised capital. If you are interested, please apply online at http://www.aetna.com/working and follow the “college” link to a page of directions. I offer no guarantees because I am new to Aetna and unfamiliar as of yet with its recruiting process. Please also contact me at LasherB@aetna.com when you apply.

/\825 Mike Petro - My career in TV/film probably won't land many interships or jobs, but my uncle is an executive at Northrop Grumman Corp's Defense Systems Division in IL, and presently all engineers at NGC (not just in IL) need to get his approval before they can hire anyone (full time or internships). He gave his blessing to Scott Lawrence '04 who started at NGC this summer.  He said he'd be willing to help out anyone interested in jobs/internships at NGC. Drop me a line and I'll make the introduction.

/\858 Chris Couch, I can probably take some engineering majors who are interested in working in automotive manufacturing. Let me know if there are any takers. The position would be at Toyota's largest car plant in the world, which is located near Lexington, Kentucky - not much big city night life but fabulous for outdoor types - biking, hiking, rafting, camping, etc. Plus there is good horse racing and the Kentucky Speedway - we have corporate boxes at each. There are now about 6 MIT grads here including LFM and Sloanies, so good interaction with potential mentors. cecouch@alum.mit.edu

A brother from the class of '93 writes, "Generally speaking, at Dell, we don't have MIT interns because we have a hard time recruiting them at the end of the internship. For the right guy - course 2 with a real interest in product design - I'd be willing to go try to make it happen. I run mechanical engineering for portable computers. Contact me through Huson, huson@alum.mit.edu

A brother from the class of '95 wrote... that he may have an opening for a quantative intern to join him for the summer at the Dallas/Ft Worth hedge fund where he works. Send me your resume through Eric.

A brother from the class of '96 writes, I can't offer any internships here but given the work I do I'd be happy to help do some coaching over the phone to help them with their internship searches and to prepare themselves to be successful in internship interviews.
